Position – Mobile Application Product Manager
Rights Action Lab in partnership with the Guardian Project creates cutting-edge, open source secure mobile applications for communities in need. We are committed to building fun, easy-to-use, reliable, functional, safe apps customized for users facing heavy-handed restrictions and censorship of internet and mobile communication. We need a hyper-organized, person who is comfortable with the technical process of mobile software development, while still seeing it from the eyes of a typical user. We need you to manage the product side of the app, including its overall marketing and promotion and ensuring that plans get rolled out on time.
You live for goals and deadlines and never say no to a good challenge, which in this position means calling out roadblocks and finding collaborative solutions. You have a flair for style and branding and are excited about marketing a product or can find people who have these skills and interests to do the job.
Responsibilities:

To keep track of the app’s overall development and to liaise with the software development team to make sure their work is on track.

To guide and support developer team in problem-solving potential obstacles to ensure the needs of the target users continue to be met

To translate existing promotional ideas into an action plan; manage the promotion and marketing plan to reach and retain target users.
Qualifications:

Experience managing the lifecycle of a mobile or desktop application

Hyper-organized

Strong verbal and written communication skills, can work collaboratively but can also communicate effectively about needs/deadlines

Ability to process and synthesize information

Committed to this being an app for at-risk users and understanding the unique needs of these users

Passion and commitment to social change and empowering repressed communities to protect and promote their rights
This is a part-time contract position from November 2017-June 2018 with the possibility of renewal and potential to become a full-time position.
Location
We are a virtual organization that operates online so you can be based almost anywhere as long as you have access to high-speed internet.
